Use This Step by Step Process to Make $5,000 Per Month With Freelance Writing
Simple and easy to follow steps
Today I’m going to show you a step-by-step process you can use to make money freelance writing.
If I could go back in time, I would start freelance writing and get high-paying clients earlier on in my writing career so I could quit my job faster
Freelancing isn’t sexy, but it can give you the cash flow you need to sustain yourself while you are building your big personal brand. I’d use this one-two punch:
- Write on Medium to practice your writing and get paid
- Start landing freelance clients to round out your earnings
You get the best of both worlds. You get to write some stuff you like and you make money.
Let’s jump into exactly how you can do this.
Step 1: Get Good at Writing
Use Medium to practice your writing and build a portfolio of articles you can use to attract clients. All of the freelance clients I ever landed were inbound — meaning they found me instead of me having to reach out to them. Medium is severely underrated as a tool to build your portfolio.
If you are serious about getting good at writing fast, it’s going to take 90 days of daily work to get your writing to the point where it’s good enough someone would consider paying you.

Step 2: Choose a Secondary Skill to Stack on Top of It
If you’re a generic freelance writer, you can land jobs, but you won’t get paid as much as someone who has another profitable skill stacked on top of it.
Examples:
- SEO
- Copywriting
- Building email funnels
