Interesting connection. I never would've thought of this.

We’re used to giving away our time and talents for the benefit of our children, our causes, and our communities. Things that are important but culturally are treated as having little value. That sentiment of reduced value trickles over into ideas about our value. And, since we’re aware that non-profits are there to help people, somehow asking for the true value of our work by being paid fairly for it seems selfish.
