I'm not of the belief that personal gain and meaning are mutually exclusive. There's a spiritual element of doing what it takes so succeed in the material whelm because of what it asks of you. There are different whys and some are better than others, for sure, but I don't think it's possible to separate the spiritual and physical realms from one another.
