A great metaphor for society.

Think of captive elephants they are chained and taught fear as a baby. A huge leg iron is tethered to its leg. It can't break it and is punished if it tries to run away. It grows up in fear. As an adult, it could break the chain and escape its captors, but it doesn't because it has been conditioned by fear and learned helplessness.
