7 Sacrifices You Can Make to Successfully Navigate the Road Less Traveled
You don’t have to listen to me. You don’t have to buy into the lessons, the hype, of self-improvement whatsoever. I welcome the criticism of the industry. You don’t have to do anything.
You could stop reading self-improvement articles altogether and forget about the idea of chasing a dream. You’d probably be happier and more content. All you need to do to be happy is to meet your own expectations. You can do that by rising to lofty ones or lowering them down to the reality you already live in. Your choice.
But, if you’re like I was a few years back, you just know you want more. You don’t have to have some noble reason for it. You just want what you want. Life comes with tradeoffs. And if you decide to pursue a dream, you will have to give something up. There’s no free lunch, ever.
That’s what makes success — achieving a long-term goal via delayed gratification that most people don’t achieve — so hard to follow through with. Reading self-help articles is fun and makes you feel all warm and fuzzy inside, but then comes the part where you have to let go — of things that comfort you, of activities you enjoy, of your entire identity in some cases.
